Problems and Applications

14th European Conference on Psychology and Law

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

FORSTAT 2008 was held in Edinburgh in June with over 50 participants from 13 countries. Presentations from the workshop are available on this website. If you wish to be kept informed of details of future workshops please contact either Colin Aitken (c.g.g.aitken@ed.ac.uk) or Greg Zadora (gzadora@ies.krakow.pl).

The next FORSTAT workshop is scheduled for June 18th and 19th in Krakow, Poland.

The intention of the FORSTAT workshops is to train forensic scientists in the statistical evaluation of evidence. During the meetings ideas concerning the application of statistical methods in the forensic field and how the methods work in practice will be presented. It is not expected that participants will have much prior statistical knowledge. The level of the presentations will be aimed at those who are forensic experts but may be beginners in statistics. The lectures will be given by experienced lecturers, both statisticians and forensic scientists, from various institutes and countries.

There will also be demonstrations of suitable software which could be used as support for the evaluation of evidence.

Colin Aitken, University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Scotland, UK
Grzegorz Zadora, Institute of Forensic Research, Krakow, Poland
